Faculty Guide to Library Resources

Tradtional, nontraditional and graduate levels of training.

About

Information Literacy & Library Training

We can provide targeted instruction in your classroom or in the library instruction room. Contact your liaison librarian to schedule a session and to discuss what should be covered. We can often accommodate last-minute sessions but prefer as much advance notice as possible.

Information literacy, including finding, evaluating, and ethically using information, is vital to every student's academic success. We offer general library instruction sessions focused on primary source research, training on specific resources such as RefWorks, assignment consultations, and online resources such as Research Guide for incorporating information literacy into any class, whatever the format.

Waggoner librarians use several different methods for teaching, including active learning, flipped classrooms, individual exercises, and group work. The library has a designated instructional space; we can even come to your classroom or your online course. We are ready to meet your research needs whatever the teaching format.

Waggoner librarians are eager to work with you to infuse information literacy into your classes! Choose the tab above for more information about different areas of library instruction at Waggoner.

Online Instruction

The Online Learning Services librarian facilitates online (through Canvas) library instruction in collaboration with course faculty.

Online learning components are hosted in the Canvas course that replicates face-to-face instruction with dynamic and engaging strategies. Faculty with online courses and programs can take advantage of library instruction in a different way that fits the online learning environment.

Traditional core courses such as English 1020 and 1080 have online learning components hosted in Canvas that replicate in a relevant format face-to-face instruction. Goals and objectives are the same; the learning strategies employed are different.

Interactive tutorials, video capture, and web-based tools such as Waggoner Library Research Guides inform and engage learners online. Options exist for live sessions with a librarian using Teams or Zoom. Library links are prominent in the course menu, and students can reach out for assistance as needed.

If you'd like to schedule a session for your online course, complete the form below.

If you'd like to email about options with the Online Learning Services Librarian click the link below her information.

Graduate & Doctoral

Librarians work with their liaison departments to teach library sessions on the graduate and doctoral levels. This brings a familiarity with department faculty and collection resources that enriches the instruction session.

Typically a general library orientation is given at the beginning of a program start, at convocation or a first-class meeting.

Additional research sessions can be scheduled as needed throughout the program. Subject-specific sessions such as dissertation research, RefWorks, Tests & assessment databases, or APA Tips are examples of additional research sessions.

Faculty should contact their departmental liaison to request a session. Click the menu link on the left for their contact information.
