Susan Ragsdale is at heart a youth champion, a writer, and a creative soul. Professionally, she is a nationally-recognized positive youth development expert and best-selling author with over 22 years experience. Personally, she is adored by her dog and her husband ... in that order.
Determined to make the world a better place for – and with – youth, Susan and business partner, Ann Saylor, partner with schools, churches and after-school programs for professional development.
Primarily, Susan focuses on coaching educators and youth workers on how to engage and motivate young people. She specializes in positive youth development techniques and experiential education – teaching, challenging and motivating others through play, leadership development and service-learning. In the 12 years of her and Ann’s partnership, she has worked with over 12,000 people face-to-face and has reached thousands more via on-line connections and through her books.
Participants consistently comment that in her trainings her passion, energy and love of young people come alive; her practices reflect both research as well as innovative, fun and practical ideas that work; and that she consistently delivers creative strategies, tools and trends that inspire both positive personal and professional growth and emphasize the power of intention in working with youth.
Susan’s expertise as a trainer has earned her a place in several professional training groups, and it has earned her recognition in the field. In 2004, the Tennessee Chapter of the YMCA Association of Professional Directors named her Director of the Year for the Essence of Initiative in recognition of her work. Her pursuits has allowed her to work with many excellent agencies and programs including career favorites: the NAZA program in Nashville, the YMCA of USA, GenerationOn, 4-H and Volunteer Tennessee.
