The best method for searching commentaries would be to go to the section of Scripture that you are interested in, and selecting the button for a complete list of all commentaries and resources related to that Scripture. This method will open other resources.

The LexiConc search allows users to search the English definitions of Hebrew and Greek words. You can search this by doing a word search using the search box on the top of the homepage, the LexiConc tab can be viewed from the results list.  You can also click the 'Search' word on the top of the homepage for this option. The result list links a word or phrase to Strong's Exhasutive Concordance. In order to decipher the results, it is important to note that there are two types of words: Hebrew and Greek. The Hebrew words are used in the Old Testament; the Greek words are used in the New Testament. Sometimes certain search criteria will only occur in one of the testaments (e.g., 'singer' is only used in the OT and 'justification' is only used in the NT).

The results will show the Hebrew and Greek words that match the word you entered in one way or another. They are displayed in a table, showing the Strong's number, the transliterated Hebrew/Greek word, the pronunciation, and the English equivalent. Clicking on the Strong's number will provide additional options 'Tool's.

The Strong's Numbers

The Strong's number is an integral part of the BLB. It helps users to access the original languages of the Bible using a non-technical methodology. By clicking on the Strongs number the user is taken to the Lexicon page, which both defines the word and presents every occurrence of it in the Bible.

This is a great place to start looking for general, overview information relating to biblical genres.

Once the link below opens  to you have a couple choices to find information:

  • Use the right side menu to open the different volumes, this shows the genre introduction. For example. Clicking on Nib Volume 2 shows a link to an article about Narrative Literature and Volume 6 would be Prophetic Literature.
  • Use the table of contents links on the right to open the text. Note: some pages may be blank. If that happens click the next item in the table of contents.
  • To find a genre:  Choose the 'Search' tab on the left and enter the genre topic in the search box. You can limit your search to the NIB Commentary or broaden it to search the entire Ministry Matters library.
