Short Stories

Need something to read but aren't up for a full-length book? How about a short story, free and legal online?

Stories are suggested and/or recommended by book club members and are not endorsed by Waggoner Library.

Waggoner Library sponsors a Young Adult Book Club for the students of Trevecca.

We will be choosing YA books each semester and reading them together and then meeting for discussion and analysis.

This is an informal time of dialog, discussion, and learning!

This semester, members will choose a genre for the next meeting and pick their own book/short story within that genre. Some may choose to read the same title, but is is not required. We also discuss other recent reads, recommended books, unrecommended books, and other book-adjacent topics!

Come and join us!

For more information please contact Katie O'Connell at kaoconnell@trevecca.edu or 615-248-1339!

Check here for meeting updates and other important information, or contact Katie O'Connell to be added to the GroupMe group.

Fall 2025 Book Club

We meet every other Monday from 4:30-5:45 in Room 116 unless otherwise specified. To get there, turn RIGHT when entering the main library doors on the main (middle) floor of the library, and go down the hallway like you're headed to the restrooms. Room 116 will be on your right.

Come join us!

  • September 8: Books read over break, introductions
  • September 22: Theme: Mysteries and thrillers
  • October 6: Theme: Magic
  • October 20: Theme: Books you haven't heard of before! We will also accept books/stories whose titles you had heard, but the about contents/story/genre you knew nothing. The key thing here is a book/story that you didn't know anything about prior to finding it on the shelf, online, etc. Need inspiration? Stop by the displays in the library to start (preview on Instagram or FB), or email Katie for some curated suggestions.
  • November 3: Theme: Nontraditional! Most traditional book clubs read traditionally-published fiction and nonfiction. For this meeting, pick something nontraditional, such as fanfiction, webcomics or webtoons, graphic novels, zines, or essays.
    • Contact Katie if you need help finding or narrowing down options! She has starter lists for a variety of choices!
  • November 17: Theme: TBD.
  • December 1: Last meeting of the semester. Book exchange! Bring a book wrapped up, unwrap someone else's, and hope that no one steals it before the game is over. Bring your friends, the ones who weren't sure about the idea of a book club, because parties are more fun with more people!

Some of the themes chosen previously. They may be chosen again in the future! A "free" theme (no other theme, reading whatever people want) is also often chosen when classes get busy, although it is not listed below.
