Links to specific newspaper titles, another way to search for career trends.

Newspapers or trade journals are good places to learn about issues and trends within a certain career or major field. Below you'll see steps to finding a newspaper article from Academic Search Ultimate that would have information about trends or issues within your major. There are also specific Newspaper databases; you could begin there.

Follow these steps to finding an article about trends and issues in your major:

  • Start in the Academic Search Ultimate database.
  • Enter your major or field of interest in the search box, if it is more than one word enclose it in quotation marks. For example, "youth ministry" or "basketball coaching".
    Then enter to search.
  • You may want to add the word 'trends' to further limit your results.
  • On the result list choose to have the results displayed in date order, most recent first.
  • Then limit your results to newspaper articles. Why newspapers? Newspapers are very current publications and the first place most trends are reported.
  • Or limit your results to Trade publications. Why trade publications? These publications are industry-specific and report on news, trends, and current issues.
