Welcome to the English as a Second Language Research Guide

"Effective teaching may be the hardest job there is."

– William Glasser

This research guide is designed to assist students in the School of Education in locating materials on the topic of ESL or English Second Learners in the library physical space and online through our library web pages.

This library research guide supports research and study for students enrolled in Trevecca's English as a Second Language program. Resources include eBooks, online full-text journal articles & newspapers, statistical sources, use of RefWorks for research, access to print books, study spaces, and links to expert research help as needed. Explore the menu pages on the left, or use the QUICK LINKS below to find what you need.

Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) is a robust collection of databases and online resources available to all citizens of Tennessee and is freely available for all schools - public or private. Because TEL is a source educators, parents, and students can access easily through their school, we have curated a list of TEL databases (alphabetically) that we think are especially useful to ESL educators. Ask the librarian if you don't see TEL on your school website!

Waggoner Library has great spaces to get work done. - If you are in Nashville, take advantage of Waggoner Library's study spaces. From numerous computers to collaborative mediascapes and group study rooms, we have a variety of spaces and tools for you to use. • Is there a Technology Lending Library?

If you need headphones, a laptop, charging cables, a tabletop whiteboard, markers/erasers, or ring lights for videoing, the Technology Lending Library can help. The Information Desk has these plus many more gadgets and technology items to check out to use in the library.  Some can be checked out for several days. View more information about our Technology Lending Library here!

  • Where can I work with a group of classmates?

Group study rooms are found on the main and second floors. Several study rooms can be reserved in advance! See below. Several can seat 3 to 8, while the majority seat up to four. All have whiteboards and network/electrical connections. Dry-erase markers can be checked out from the main circulation desk.

  • Book a Group Study Room

Nine study rooms can be reserved in advance. Reservations are accepted for groups of 3 or more ONLY.  When you arrive at your reserved time and find that others are using the room, ask the librarian for assistance. The rooms may be used without making a reservation, but those with an approved booking have priority. Click here to book a study room.

  • What about printing in the library?

Students can print to the Papercut printers. Print jobs are released by either tapping or sliding your TNU ID to release the print job.

  • Can you bring food or drink to the library?

Food-free zones are located around the computers on the main & ground floors and the Library Instruction Room. Waggoner NINETEEN| 01 coffee bar on the main floor serves coffee, teas, pastries, and grab-n-go lunches. Be mindful of your space. Keep it clean.
